New Mexico
27.09.2022 - 27.09.2022
Usual morning routine, up, breakfast, make lunch, pack the car and set off. We weren’t far from town when time changed again and we were an hour earlier leaving than we thought 😜
Another warm cloudless day surrounded by mountains with mostly low lying desert scrub.
Heading towards El Paso we could see, off in the distance, the wall between USA and Mexico. We’ve previously gone around El Paso, today we went through it. It’s massive with the signature Texas spaghetti fly overs but here they are in desert colours. Heading out of town the border was right below us. One advantage of going through the town, we weren’t stopped by border force officers once.
We stopped and spent an hour at the EP outlet mall. Pete got some under armour shorts and socks; I got a couple of pairs of Sketchers thongs.
Back on the road and we crossed into New Mexico where we were stopped briefly by border patrol, they basically waved us through.
The highway was lined with yukkas, lots of them in all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes. Like yesterday we had our lunch as we drove. Yesterday it was essentially a matter of expediency and today mainly due to a lack of rest areas and the heat.
Into Arizona and another time change meant we lost another hour.
Pete got to see a Hercules, only his 2nd sighting after a C17 over Crater Lake. Sightings have been a bit low this year.
It’s hot, mid 30’s!
We checked into our hotel in Marana about 3.30; hit some local stores, bought a ceramic coated frypan, looked unsuccessfully for a new quilt set & bought food for dinner. The shorter run today and from here til the end should mean we are less tired when we get home.
Usual evening routine; some work, dinner and a couple of shows.
